FOGERTY BOLT ACTION REPEATING
Conversion of an M1861 US
Cal. .58 centerfire.
The receiver shows almost
100% of its aging case color. Markings "Fogerty Rifle Co/Patented Feb 1,
1865/Boston U.S.A." are clear. All other iron components wear a mix of
smooth gray and light patina. Bore is sharp and bright. Good cartridge
feed mechanism and bolt action though the full cock does not hold. The
stock shows no use with just gentle aging and some minor handling marks.
There is a 2" grain crack right side behind rear barrel band. The walnut
fillers inserted at conversion into the lock mortise and lock screw washer
holes are very well done and have a good color match. Good edges. No cartouches.
A letter "N" is stamped on left flat, a small "c" forward of butt plate
tang, and a number "1" staped into right side at butt plate. This is an
excellent example of a rare and unique American arm.
